Hats off to Mamdani

Some good news for a change!  Zohran Mamdani, the democratic socialist Democrat candidate, has been elected Mayor of New York. It's a ray of light in the current darkness which engulfs the globe. He ran a positive campaign and connected with millions of voters in New York and across the country. He is a Muslim who expressed solidarity with Jewish residents, LGBTQ+ people and condemned what Israel has been doing i Gaza. Not only that, but he promised free public transport and lower rents. I wish him the best and hope he succeeds.

Of course, he will come under attack and the right are already launching ridiculous smears. It's all fairly predictable. He will introduce Sharia law, blah, blah etc. Oh! And all the multimillionaires are going to quit New York - as if that was a bad thing. They should go to Mars with Eloon.

In the UK, Zack Polanski is giving people hope with a similar approach to Mamdani, engaging with voters and pushing policies - like tax the rich - which are rattling the right-wing press and establishment. Green Party membership is booming, and they are rising in the polls, with one poll putting them ahead of Starver's Labour.

Right-wing press in a panic about Polanski and the Green surge.

With a general election four years away, it's far too early to tell how this will pan out, but we have to have hope and organise together to build a better future for all. Solidarity! ✊✊✊
